Scope/Purpose of Job/Job Responsibilities:
The Genetic Counsellor I will assist the Head of Genetics Counselling Services and relevant clinical collaborators in implementing CTSB’s operational plan, in particular with respect to counselling and risk management of individuals and families with hereditary cancers. The ideal candidate for this position must be meticulous, organize, problem solver in carrying our research protocol and be able to maintain a high level of accuracy with minimal supervision.
Job Responsibilities:
To be responsible for specific operational aspects of CTSB’s genetic counselling service and research, including:
- Conduct pre-clinic intakes and assist the Consultant Genetic Counsellor/Clinical Geneticist to provide pre-test and results disclosure. Provides comprehensive client consultation, assessment, and genetic counselling which involves diagnosing, communicating and educating clients and/or their families regarding genetic disorders or conditions; reviewing and discussing genetic tests results; outlining and recommending screening or medical availability including participating in research related to their condition; and explaining or arranging a course of action. Meetings can also involve reviewing results of genetic testing,counselling or discussing implications, and completing documentation.
- Assessing the cost and quality of laboratory services.
- Assisting the Risk Management Team (consultant surgeon, consultant gynae oncologist, consultant radiologist, consultant clinical geneticist) to provide appropriate risk management to relevant patients
- Maintaining patient records in hard and soft copy
- Assist in preparing and submitting internal and external reports, and
- Complying with safety, ethical and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in administrative processes in finance, marketing and public relations etc.
- Other responsibilities include:
- To assist in preparing reports and proposals for partners and other stakeholders as necessary.
- To take responsibility for designated projects as necessary.
- To assist in maintaining effective partnerships with key stakeholders, particularly withcollaborators and commercial partners.
- To undertake other duties that may be assigned from time to time e.g., administrative tasks as required
- To deputise for the Head of Genetic Counselling Services when appropriate
- To represent the team and CTSB when appropriate
Job Requirements:
- MSc in Genetic Counselling.
- Multilingual and able to communicate effectively in Malay, English and if possible, Mandarin to cater to the diverse linguistic needs of our clients.
- Assumes full responsibilities within role.
- Knows when, and who, to ask about a problem, and does so.
- Able to work with minimum supervision within a team structure.
- Driven by a strong sense of making an impact, with problem solving skills, including conflict resolution skills
- The ability to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines.
- Adopts a pro-active attitude to work.
