Scope/Purpose of Job/Job Responsibilities:

The purpose of the job is:

  • Assist the Chief Scientific Officer in developing CRMY’s strategic direction, in clinical/translational research.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Core Laboratory, ensuring efficient management of sample collection, processing, and storage.
  • Provide scientific leadership and strategic direction to the laboratory team, fostering an environment of innovation and high-standard research practices.
  • Collaborate with clinical and research teams to support investigator-initiated clinical trials, including trials for breast cancer, head and neck cancers, and lung cancer.
  • Develop and implement laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and ethical standards.
  • Evaluate and integrate new research technologies and biobanking systems to enhance laboratory capabilities.
  • Manage and mentor a team (comprising post-doctoral research scientists, senior research associates, research associates, research assistants and study coordinators) promoting career development and high-performance standards.
  • Prepare and manage the laboratory budget, ensuring effective use of resources.
  • Ensure accurate data management and quality control of biospecimens and data.
  • Maintain collaborations with external partners, stakeholders, and the scientific community to advance team objectives.
  • Other responsibilities include:
  1. To deputise for the Chief Scientific Officer when appropriate
  2. To represent CRMY when appropriate
  3. To prepare and present papers for the Board of Trustees.
  4. To take responsibility for designated projects as necessary
  5. To undertake other administrative tasks as required

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in cancer research, particularly in molecular and genetic methodologies.
  • Proficiency in the latest laboratory technologies and information systems used in genetic research and biobanking.
  • Demonstrated skill in handling data, and successfully presenting the data both in spoken (conference) or written (publication) form.
  • Proven track record of managing a laboratory, including staff supervision and project management.
  • Experience in oncology, core laboratories, biobanking, or clinical research laboratories.
  • Experience in clinical trial support and understanding of clinical research protocols would be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and quality assurance in a research setting. The ability to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines, maintaining high standards even under pressure.
  • Adopts a proactive attitude to work, always looking for ways to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Assumes full responsibility within role, ensuring all tasks are completed to the highest standard.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop team members. Driven by a strong sense of making an impact, with excellent problem solving skills, including conflict resolution.
