About Us:

Zakesy Biotech is a forward-thinking biotech company dedicated to advancing personalized medicine through cutting-edge genomic technologies. We focus on in-house developed tests and next-generation sequencing to deliver clinically relevant insights to healthcare professionals and their patients.

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Technical Officer to join our genomic diagnostics team. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the genetic testing pipeline — from patient sample handling to genetic analysis and reporting. This role requires excellent communication skills, as you will liaise directly with medical professionals and support patient inquiries. A strong understanding of laboratory quality management systems, especially ISO standards, is essential.

Job Descriptions:

Sample Processing & Genetic Testing

  • Perform DNA extraction, quality assessment, and downstream genetic testing using platforms including SNP array, sanger sequencing, nanopore sequencing, Whole Exome Sequencing (WES), and Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS).
  • Execute in-house developed assays for pharmacogenetic markers: CYP2C19, CYP2C9, HLA-B*15:02, and Huntington’s Disease (and specific requests from doctors).
  • Carry out variant identification, interpretation, and annotation — particularly for pathogenic variants via WES.

Report Generation & Communication

  • Generate comprehensive genetic test reports based on analysis outcomes.
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of reports to referring doctors and clinicians.
  • Act as a liaison between the lab and healthcare professionals to explain findings and answer follow-up queries.
  • Provide limited patient-facing support related to test workflows and results interpretation (non-diagnostic).

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all testing and reporting processes are conducted in compliance with ISO standards (e.g., ISO 15189/17025) and relevant quality control protocols.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, validation of tests, and proficiency testing schemes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of protocols, test results, and quality records.

Laboratory Operations

  • Contribute to the maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Assist in inventory control and reagent preparation as required.
  • Support the development and optimization of new assays and workflows.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or related field.
  • Experience in a clinical or diagnostic laboratory setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with genetic testing platforms such as WES/WGS and targeted assays (e.g., ASA).
  • Working knowledge of pharmacogenetics and medical genetics is an advantage.
  • Strong grasp of bioinformatics pipelines for variant identification is a plus.
  • Understanding of ISO 15189/17025 quality systems and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with LIMS and electronic medical reporting systems.
  • Ability to interpret variants using databases like ClinVar, HGMD, gnomAD, etc.
  • Familiarity with ACMG/AMP guidelines for variant classification
