Job Descriptions:
- Conduct diagnostic tests to identify plant diseases caused by pathogens, including fungi, bacteria and viruses.
- Lead research projects on plant disease biology, pathogen behavior, and resistance mechanisms in cash crops. Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in plant pathology.
- Develop and recommend integrated pest management (IPM) and disease management strategies to mitigate cash crops disease spread and damage.
- Collect and analyze data on plant health, disease prevalence, and control measures, preparing reports and presentations for stakeholders.
- Conduct field visits to monitor plant health, collect samples, and assess disease impact on crops and other plants.
Job Requirements:
Qualification and experience:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Plant Pathology, Plant Science, Microbiology, or a related field with at least 2-3 years of experience in plant pathology, agriculture, or a related field.
- Experience with diagnostic techniques, laboratory procedures, and working in agricultural or research settings is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with plant disease identification, fieldwork, and plant care.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of plant pathogens and plant disease cycles.
- Familiar with diagnostic tools and techniques for plant disease identification.
- Ability to analyze complex data and generate actionable insights.
- Experience with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies and their implementation.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate scientific information into practical advice.
- Proficiency with laboratory equipment, software for data analysis, and field sampling techniques.
- Problem-solving mindset and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Familiar with environmental regulations, biosecurity, and sustainability practices.
