We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Project Officer to initiate and implement projects related to biotechnology and science advocacy. This role is integral to supporting the development of biotechnology and the bioeconomy, with a focus on science communication, enabling policies and regulations, commercialization, and talent development. The successful candidate will also manage The Petri Dish, Malaysia’s first science newspaper, and contribute to its content through article writing.

Job Descriptions:

Project Management and Implementation:

  • Initiate, plan, and execute projects related to biotechnology and science advocacy in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develop project proposals, timelines, and budgets, ensuring effective resource allocation and adherence to deadlines.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across government, industry, academia, and non-profits to drive project success
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of projects, providing regular updates to senior management and adjusting plans as necessary.

Science Communication and Advocacy:

  • Lead efforts to communicate complex biotechnological concepts to diverse audiences,
    including policymakers, industry leaders, and the general public.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies that promote enabling policies and
    regulations supporting biotechnology and the bioeconomy.
  • Advocate for the commercialization of biotechnological innovations through targeted outreach and engagement activities.
  • Contribute to talent development initiatives by creating and promoting educational content and programs related to biotechnology.

Management of The Petri Dish:

  • Oversee the editorial direction, content planning, and publication process of The Petri Dish, ensuring high-quality and relevant coverage of scientific topics.
  • Write and edit articles, ensuring they are accurate, engaging, and accessible to a broad
    audience.
  • Collaborate with a team of writers, editors, and contributors to maintain the newspaper’s
    reputation as a leading source of science news in Malaysia.
  • Expand the newspaper’s reach through innovative distribution channels and digital platforms.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions, industry partners, and advocacy groups.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, workshops, and meetings related to biotechnology and science advocacy.
  • Work closely with policy makers to influence the development of supportive policies and
    regulations.

Job Qualifications:

  • Possess at least Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Science Communication, Mass Communication or any other science fields.
  • Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects
    simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in science writing
    or journalism.
  • Proven ability to translate complex scientific information into clear, compelling content
    for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Science, technology and innovation /
    biotechnology landscape
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in digital tools and platforms for content creation and project management.
