As the Project Engineer (Setup & Maintenance), you will be a core team member of our production team. You will be responsible for new setup, installations and upgrades and to keep our farm and manufacturing facilities running reliably to support ramp-up targets. This is both a technical and managerial role. You will need to intimately understand the technical and process-related aspects of our facilities and equipment to ensure smooth upgrades and maintenance as we are continuously evolving our operations at our pilot facilities, laying the groundwork and de-risking the plan for our next facilities.

You will also be in charge of planning preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs and modifications. You will manage the in-house setup & maintenance team and will be responsible for engaging the right external resources to scale your impact. This is not a typical maintenance role. Responsibilities:

• Plan and execute upgrading, installation, commissioning & maintenance works with internal and external teams and resources on time, scope and budget.
• Drive installation, modification, maintenance and upgrading of equipment on our production lines consisting among others of conveyors, sieves, mixers, mills, material handling and processing equipments and machines, climate chambers and climate control systems, automation equipment and specialised components
• Plan and perform inspections and preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance on our electrical, mechanical and utilities systems
• Be accountable for setup & maintenance team’s work scope, plans, schedule. work verification and handover to production teams.
• Manage the daily work schedule of the maintenance activities and develop a world-class maintenance culture in terms of capabilities, attitude, processes, tooling, data management, spare part and vendor management and reporting
• Ensure facility, equipment and process safety, sanitation and compliance standards are met. Contribute as a member of the HACCP and GMP+ team of the company.
• You will be accountable for the sanitation and hygiene program at Protenga including to oversee and execute effective rodent and pest control across our facilities.
• Effectively troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues and resourcefully improving the operating efficiency and process flow through guiding production team in their use and implementing modifications that remove bottlenecks.
• Interface with design engineering team to inform next generation farm and equipment designs for maintainability, robustness and overall operating improvement

Requirements:

• Must have: min 8 years of total working experience in manufacturing or engineering, preferably in agri/food-manufacturing industries
• min 2-3 years of experience managing an effective team
• Must have: dedication, grit, perseverance, ambition to develop your career within a challenging, high-performance agri-tech startup making an impact on our food system.
• Must have: Strong technical and engineering understanding. Project management experience. Technology/Software affinity. Common Sense
• Strong organisational and communication skills. Your written communication creates clarity and structure for your team and the organization
• Analytical skills, research skills and strong experienced-based intuition about what will work and what doesn’t. Strong attention to detail and quality of work of yourself and your team. Strong drive for efficiency and excellent organization
• Hands-on experience in mechanical and electrical factory and machine works, metal fabrication works and working exposure to construction, piping. HVAC/climate control, utilities and electrical work is a plus.
• Proficient written and spoken communication in English. Fluent Malay communication. Mandarin is a plus.
• It’s a big plus if you are experienced in Food/Agri-manufacturing industries: food manufacturing or agriculture (palm oil, large feed milling, poultry operations).
• Having startup or new project development experience would be a big plus.
